The KinCasts app
- No account. KinCasts does not ask you to sign in, and it does not ask for your name or email address.
- No analytics or advertising. The app has no analytics and shows no ads of its own.
- Your listening stays on your phone. The shows you add, your place in each episode and your downloads are stored on your device.
- The list of shows. The app fetches its list of shows from mypodapp.net. That request carries no information about you beyond what any web request carries, such as your IP address.
- Podcast feeds and audio. Episodes come straight from each podcast's own publisher. Those publishers can see your IP address and which episode you requested, as with any podcast app.
- Notifications. If you allow them, the app shows notifications on your phone. They are created on the device.
This website
- Accounts. If you start a group or accept an invitation to one, we store the name and email address you give and a scrambled form of your password. The other people in your group can see your name. An account on this site is separate from the app, which still asks for none.
- Your group's shows. When you add a show to your group's pool, we store the show, the line you wrote about it, and that you added it. Everyone in the group sees all three. Searching for a show sends the words you type to Apple's podcast directory from our server, not from your browser.
- Invitation links. When someone makes an invitation link, we store who made it, the note they typed about who it is for, and who used it.
- Cookies. The site sets a cookie to keep you signed in and to protect its forms. It sets no advertising or tracking cookies.
- Contact form. What you type into the contact form is sent to us so we can reply. It is stored by our form service, forms.mailhandler.com.
- Spam protection. The contact page and the page for starting a group use Google reCAPTCHA, which is subject to Google's privacy policy and terms.
- Server log. The web server keeps a standard log of requests, including IP address and browser type.
